Suranjana Bose,one of the rising stars in the horizon of the Indian classical and semi classical music, is the new worthy representative of the country's rich musical heritage to the outside world. An exponent of Patiala Gharana, Suranjana is also proficient in Thumri, Dadra, Bhajan and Bengali Songs . In a very short span of her ascending career she has gained a matured approach towards the presentation of her sea - deep knowledge and accompanied by her rich melodious voice is indeed amongst a handful to recon with .A talented singer of younger generation, her immaculate style and flawless presentation has not only swayed the stalwarts but also her suave disposition and remarkable communication skill helped readily to establish a pleasant rapport with her listeners .

Despite her brilliant academic background,a 1st class in Graduation, Post Graduation as well as in B.ED from Calcutta University, she instead choose to devote herself completely to the classical music with an equally shinning musical career . Suranjana received her initial training in classical music from Pt.Hariprasad Das and later she had the privilege of being a disciple of Late Pt. Prasun Bandopadhya and Meera Bandopadhdya of Patiala Gharana and doyen of Thumri, Dr. Girija Devi of Benaras Gharana .But her thirst of knowledge was not quenched and she was fortunate to come under the tutelage and kind patronage of several renowned singers like Purabi Dutta, Sukumar Mitra, Amalendu Bikash Kar Choudhury, Dilip Das, Mandira Lahiri, and noteworthy Pt. Ajay Chakraborty. Hence it's no wonder that Suranjana has cut a deep niche for herself in other light classical genres Bengali songs apart from Thumri, Dadra, Kheyal and Bhajan cult.

Recipient of a no. of acclamations since her inception in this exhaustive area , Suranjana has been continuing with an untiring effort to improve herself to the apogee of her glorious musical career . The ushering of various awards & certificates in recognition to her delectable voice and unquestionable devotion have been many, which are briefly enumerated as follows :-

Received the degree Sangeet Kalabid from Nikhil Bharatiya Sangeet Parishad , recognized by the West Bengal State Academy of Dance , Music & Visual Arts in 1990.
She's an 'A' Grade artist of AIR and Doordarshan, Kolkata,her subjects being Kheyal , Thumri , Bhajan , Ragprodhan and Nazrulgeeti .
Suranjana has performed in Tuesday Night Concerts, Chain Concerts from AIR CPC programmes in Doordarshan .
She has performed in National Programme Of Music from AIR.

Suranjana has also taken part in different musical concerts , not only in India but her overseas performances include her visit to the Banga Sanskriti Sammelan, held in Liverpool, U.K in 1996 and her revisit to the same country to perform in different cities of London,Scunthorpe,Glassgow, etc. in 1997.

Suranjana's multifaceted musical career reached its height when she decided to inculcate her sincere efforts and interests in the minds of the younger generation about the Classical Music. Thus the following briefly depicts her inexhaustible sprightliness to encourage the next generation and nurture them accordingly in the field of Indian Classical Music.

I. She is the teacher of her own institution --- Sur-O-Rekha.

II. She has conducted workshop -- Sangeet Sikshar Ashar from AIR Kolkata.

III. Suranjana conducted workshops in Bharatiya Bidya Bhavan " in U.K in 1997.

IV. Her other workshops were conducted in different schools of U.K, like Falguni, Chandam and Nupur .

V. She has also conducted a workshop in a High School and the Augustana College, Illinois, USA.

VI. Appointed examiner in vocal (classical) music from Rabindra Bharati University.


But the most remarkable aspect of Suranjana Bose's amazing career was when she took part in different competitions as a judge . With her unbiased decisions and candid selections, Suranjana has been perfectly balanced to give her verdict and choose the luscious voices of next generation singers.

Suranjana Bose has been judge in different programmes in Doordarshan,like Gaan Sudhu Gaan, Gaan Antahin etc.

She had been one of the panel of judges in Rajya Sangeet Academy of West Bengal .

Suranjana also had the privilege of being one of the members of Additiya - a talent search organized by Ananda Bazaar Patrika Ltd. In West Bengal .


Hence after all this its no wonder that the idyllic voice of Suranjana Bose will be indeed a joy to listen to and the cassette companies give her avid listeners an edge over the others by releasing her cassettes viz.:-
